Photographing the artists of Intiman Theatre

You’ve probably seen Katie Benezra‘s work all over town. She is the incredibly talented graphic designer that has created the promotional posters for Washington Ensemble Theatre since 2009 and now currently with Intiman. The first time I worked with her was for The Fairytale Lives of Russian Girls poster. Oh how I totally dug her work!

This spring I was honored to be invited over to her lovely home. On arrival, I was greeted by a very friendly and beautiful black Siamese cat that she and her husband, Noah Benezra, recently rescued (“we LOVE her!!”). Big hearts!!! “Lyra” insisted on being a big part of the shoot, and since I’m a big fan of pets in people portraits, we embraced their newest family member in the shoot.

Katie Benezra is a book designer by day, who moonlights as a freelance graphic designer by night. She’s been designing posters for Washington Ensemble Theatre since 2009. Her favorite designs for the Ensemble include The Fairytale Lives of Russian Girls, The Callers, BedSnake and Babs the Dodo. She is currently working with the Intiman to create a myriad of printed pieces and advertisements for their upcoming Summer Festival. As a book designer, her favorite titles include Star Wars: The Blueprints, Alien Vault, andPuppyhood. A selection of her work can be found at www.katiebenezra.com.
